I have always been interested in art and remember wanting to be an artist at a very early age. As a child I had a keen sense of perspective and an innate ability to draw and sculpt. I always imagined myself as an artist when I was younger, but never thought about how I would become an artist as an adult, especially as a full-time business owner. At the University of Louisiana, I studied drawing, design, sculpture, painting, and advertising only to graduate and begin learning a trade by working at a printing company. I became self-employed about 15 years ago. Controlling production at my printing company required learning computer design applications and my resources for creativity grew, along with my photography while the time available to paint decreased. Although I work as a printer, designer and broker, my aspirations as an artist continue to grow as I've managed to streamline my business and priorities in order to pursue my life-long dreams. Artist Statement As an artist, I believe it is a gift to be able to create, and a privilege to share my vision with others. I express myself artistically by creating oil paintings that usually depict realistic images that transcend, clarify or enhance reality. I strive to make original art that stimulates thought and imagination, portrays the spirit or essence of the subject, and demands your attention, by capturing or freezing a moment in time. While painting, I am also connecting with an inner voice, tapping into my intuition and a primal instinct to record, explore, interpret and understand. I not only enjoy the fluid nature of oil paint, it's chemistry, viscosity and it's ability to be mixed, manipulated, or blended, but I also strive to learn in order to "see" and realistically depict each subject with color. Every painting has its own unique challenges. My inspiration is the awesome diversity and complexity of nature and life, allowing me a continual journey of discovery, learning and growth. I value instruction and learning to become a better artist. - John Ballbach The Art Pros Curators Dan Rojas, Vesna Anderson, and Denise Rojas |
