Frank Saso was born in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art. He worked as a commercial illustrator in Detroit, Michigan on national accounts and then in 1980, he moved to Florida and opened his art studio in the Tampa Bay area. Frank was one of the founders of the National Graphic Artists Guild now located in New York City, also a member of the International Society of Marine Painters, The New York Society Of Illustrators, The Tampa Bay Advertising Federation and numerous art groups. The U.S. Army commissioned him to do a commemorative 1991 Gulf War painting. The first limited edition print was presented to General Norman Schwarzkopf and the original painting hangs in the Pentagon in Washington D.C. When he recently completed a series of paintings for the Bank of Tampa, Frank was given the Gold Addy Award by the Tampa Bay Advertising Federation and named "Artist of the Year" and his art was named "Best In the Bay, Elements of Advertising." Rockford Publishers of New England selected his painting "Pemaquid Point, Maine" for their new book release "A Gallery of Marine Art." His art is registered with the John Paul Getty Trust Data Bank of Art and Artists. Frank has sailed the Caribbean waters for years on different tall ships and has painted throughout the islands. His Caribbean painting "Island Treasures" was chosen "Best of Show" at the Longboat Key Center for the Artsin Florida. He also organized Tall Ship cruises for artists to sail and paint in the islands. Frank has painted the Tall Ships of the World that are used for training sailors and now painting a series of New England Tall Ships. The history of clowns was also of interest to Frank and he painted Clowns and comedians throughout the ages. His first painting "The History of Clowns" depicts their origin and follows their evolution into the present day with the circus clowns. Comedians such as Laurel & Hardy brought buffoonery and slapstick to the movies. Officials from the U.S. Congress, The State Government of Ohio, also Cleveland and Euclid, Ohio commended Frank Saso. Honoring his art On display in the Pentagon were Representatives Stephanie Tubbs Jones and Senator George Voinovich. Also for his successful career, State Representatives Edward Jerse and Larry Householder and the mayor of his hometown of Euclid, Ohio inducted him into the Distinguished Achievement Hall of Fame.
