GUS OCAMPOSILVA

Colombian Artist, studied Muralism at Massana School of Barcelona and painting procedures at Barcelona University, Spain.(1992-1995)
Ocamposilva*s art works are an interpretation of the world he was raised; the Andes and the Tropic, a world fulfill with a great diversity of colors where the most difficult times are inspiration to fortify the spirit. He wants to show in his works the passion for life; he can not imaging a world without colors; without the magic, the poetry and the landscape of the human body.
The use of the knife started to be an important part in the process of composition that enriched the effects of the movement and the texture.
Gus created his own style with character using bright colors; shapes of the human form appear and pervade on the surface plane showing poignancy and verb in all his paintings that become an abstraction of the figurative forms; where each color is expressed by it self, it is like each color is an individual painting. His art works have a high Latin American influence and through the time his paintings have been fed with his experiences as an student in Europe and now as a resident of U.S.A. In the sculptures the empty spaces are part of the human landscape, the shadows and the light that the sculptures project go beyond the threedimensionality; as in the paintings the texture, the movement and the color are elements that give identity to his art works.
Ocamposilva has shown his art works in different countries as Spain, Canada, Germay, Colombia and U.S.A.
He has received several awards as:Brumas del Rocio Medal, Barcelona 1994; Miami Key Award, Art Miami 1998, First Place Overall, Bartow Blooming Art Festival,2003; This year he was selected as an Artist Winner for the Hispanic Heritage Calendar 2007.
During the Summer 2006, Ocamposilva was selected by the Atlanta City Hall and The Bureau of Cultural Affairs as the first Latin American artist to make a Public art mural with a Latin American theme, where he achieved the attention of the community of the town through the magic, the color, the poetry, the myths and the legends of the Pre-Colombian culture.
He was selected to exhibit during 2007-2008 in the Sioux Falls SculptureWalk 2007-2008 in South Dakota starting this summer.
Statement:
" I pretend to show in all my paintings and sculptures the sensibility of the human spirit; exploring through the abstraction, the shapes of the human body, the fusion of the colors, the sensuality, the exuberance for life and the tonal charm with powerful and expressive colors and forms. Through the years I found the technic to tell the way I perceived the world and my passion for life. Art is what keeps my mind, spirit and body together".
